Mayur Mukati

Bachelor of Engineering (Hons.) • Chemical Engineering • BITS Pilani

Mayur graduated in 2012 with a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons.) in Chemical from BITS Pilani. He whetted his appetite for understanding the nuances of environmental sustainability and energy efficiency during his undergraduate studies. He worked on the conceptual project “Drinking Water from Humidity” and also made a prototype in a project “Bio-Sand Water Filter”, showcasing the reduced carbon footprint compared to the relevant alternatives. He served as an intern at Aditya Birla Chemicals (Thailand) for six months, and proposed some energy-efficient improvements to their production process-- conserving the energy in flash dryers, and solving the fuel optimization problem with the introduction of the burner management system.

He joined Ranbaxy Laboratories as a Production Manager, analyzing, and managing energy-intensive sterile facility functions. He was also a core participant in the commissioning of nearly US$12M adjoining facility, where he gained tremendous insight. In 2014, following his passion for learning more about sustainability, Mayur studied green buildings and was credentialed as a LEED Green Associate. Meanwhile, he mentored in a small NGO and taught underprivileged children of his hometown. Also, he worked on science curriculum and public relations (website and social media marketing) for almost a year.

In 2016, he was a summer intern at Urban Climate Resilience Southeast Asia (UCRSEA) Partnership in Myanmar. He looked into urbanization of Myanmar from the perspective of sustainability and climate change, and combined learning from other developing neighbours including Thailand and Vietnam. Additionally, he was selected as the University of Toronto delegate to the week-long University Scholars Leadership Symposium held in Vietnam and discussed communities-in-need with Humanitarian Affairs.

Currently, he is studying sustainability courses at Lund University in Sweden under university exchange program for the autumn semester of 2016-17. Moreover, he is selected as one of the ten worldwide wild card entry candidates to compete in Nudge Global Leadership Challenge held in Netherlands in October 2016. For the same, he is designing a Sustainability Impact Plan to work till next year.

Mayur loves adventure sports and had done rock climbing, cliff jumping, river rafting, underwater walking, para sailing, etc. He is a dance enthusiast and coordinated several dances in cultural events organized during his undergraduate studies. He is also an avid reader of science articles and an occasional blog writer.
