Bio
Emmanuelle Mphuthi holds a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Political Science, and a minor in Journalism from the University of California, Berkeley. Her academic focus explored the intersection of international relations and human rights, which she observed through the lens of intersectionality. She is passionate about using her communications skills to support environmental and social advocacy initiatives.
During her undergraduate studies, Emmanuelle participated in several research institutes and social student organizations, reflecting her interdisciplinary approach to her fields of interest. Paired with senior roles at the Cal Black Pre-Law Association and the B-Side Magazine, Emmanuelle researched at Cal’s Center for Law, Energy and the Environment, where she leveraged her passion for communications to further climate education throughout the Bay Area. This particular experience is what cemented her interest in sustainability as a career path. Central to her endeavors is a dedication to making complex information accessible to the general public and centering marginalized voices in the process.
Following graduation, Emmanuelle pursued work in fields ranging from sustainable fashion reporting, to lobbying lawmakers on Capitol Hill to strengthen protections for women and children against AI-generated pornography. Currently, she works as a Sustainability and Communications Officer at BluPrnt Africa, a fintech company based in Johannesburg, South Africa– her hometown. There, she hopes to further the company’s digital reach and expand its capacity to localize Africa’s banking and telecommunications supply chains, spearhead innovative eco-card technology, and further its clients’ ability to meet their ESG goals.
Throughout her academic and professional careers, Emmanuelle has remained committed to making a future where a triple bottom-line is possible by combining her passion for corporate sustainability and driving positive, long-term societal change. Through the MScSM program, she hopes to expand her technical toolkit and hone her interdisciplinary approach to ever-changing sustainability issues.
In her free time, Emmanuelle enjoys volunteering at conservation organizations, reviewing music and movies, and drawing.
