Bio
In 2023, Shuchita graduated from McGill University with a First Class Honors in International Development and Psychology. Through her environment related classes, internships and extra curriculars, she gained a deep purpose for sustainability and an understanding of its relationship with policy, development, and innovation.
During her time at McGill, Shuchita had the opportunity to produce environment and climate related policy recommendations through her involvement with the university’s International Youth Advisory Delegation. Here, she attended the United Nations’ Commission on the Status of Women (CSW66) as a delegate. Through her meetings with member state representatives and permanent ambassadors, she presented her policy briefs catered to country specific environmental challenges. Here, Shuchita gained an understanding and appreciation of the work that policy builders and civil society coalitions do to combat the triple planetary crisis.
In 2022, Shuchita pursued an internship with the United Nations Environment Programme as a Public Information intern. Her summer in Nairobi, Kenya working at the UNEP headquarters was a transformative experience that ultimately drew her to a career in sustainability. She contributed to the planning and digital communications of Stockholm+50, a commemoration of the 1972 UN Conference on the Environment. In addition to creating and producing written content for various audience engagement platforms, she also assisted various member states and NGOs with their participation inside events. She also played a key role in the production of the Stockholm+50 digital analytics report. In addition to her work at UNEP, Shuchita’s summer in Kenya exposed her to not only the natural beauty of the country, but also the challenges it is experiencing as a result of the climate crisis. Through this experience, she decided to pursue further studies and a career in sustainability.
In her senior year at McGill, Shuchita was the sustainability commissioner of the Students Society of McGill University (SSMU), the highest governing student body for undergraduate students. Here, she played a lead role in producing the SSMU Sustainability Policy and the SSMU Sustainable Development Goal Plan which impacts all undergraduate students. She gained insight into the policy writing process, honing her skills in research, writing and collaboration, notably through consultations with administration and other advocacy groups to achieve McGill’s environmental goals. In addition to policy building and hosting events to encourage sustainability on campus, Shuchita also had the opportunity to consult with McGill’s Office of Investments on the university’s investment practices and the possibility of decarbonizing its investment portfolio. Here, Shuchita gained an interest in ESG, decarbonization and sustainable finance.
In her free time, Shuchita is always planning her next opportunity to travel and backpack in a new region of the world! She is currently hoping to plan a trip to Central America. Shuchita hopes to experience the diverse, natural beauty that this vast planet has to offer and hopes to conserve its health for future generations to prosper.
