Bio

Joelle graduated from McMaster University with an Honours Bachelor of Science in Life Sciences and a Minor in Geographic Information Systems. She leveraged the flexibility of her degree by taking courses of interest in economics, environmental issues and global climate change politics.

During her undergraduate years, she was actively involved with AIESEC, an international non-profit organization focused on student leadership through cross-cultural exchanges. She applied and developed her skills towards business strategy and people management in her role as President of the Hamilton branch. By streamlining procedures, she increased the chapter’s performance rate, results and membership experiences while discovering her passion towards management.

At nineteen, she volunteered in the Philippines for a sustainable energy and plastic waste reduction organization which furthered her interest towards the development of clean energy. The following year, she taught English in Indonesia for four months where she enhanced her cultural sensitivity and international communication skills. Living with a local family revealed the lack of sustainable practices within communities and the lack of sustainability concepts within the education system. From these invaluable experiences, along with her three backpacking trips across Asia and Europe, she has gained a strong appreciation for different cultures and building connections between them.

Her career interests include topics in global sustainability relating to corporate strategic planning, climate change mitigation, sustainable investment and development. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with friends and family, hiking, art, food and reading.
