Bio
Emma graduated with honors from McMaster University with a Bachelor of Science in Earth & Environmental Sciences where she also completed a concurrent certificate in Geographic Information Systems. Her academic background includes coursework in geophysics, mineralogy, structural geology, geographic information systems, and geochemistry. Throughout her studies, Emma developed a strong interest in applying her understanding of Earth systems to address complex environmental challenges and drive sustainable development in Canada.
During her undergraduate co-op terms, Emma worked at the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada where she supported federal environmental impact assessments of large-scale mining projects over the course of 16 months. Here, she was introduced to the role that environmental policy and scientific analysis play in shaping sustainable development in Canada. In her role as Junior Project Analyst, Emma contributed to the review of an Environmental Impact Statement for a mining project, using her geochemical background to identify potentially overlooked impacts on groundwater quality. Her contributions helped ensure that environmental risks were thoroughly evaluated and supported federal reviewers in providing relevant scientific expertise to the project proponent. This experience was one of many that sparked her interest in corporate sustainability and the integration of environmental science and policy in decision-making processes.
Outside of academics, Emma enjoys weightlifting and spending time outdoors, particularly on long walks. She has a keen interest in sustainable fashion and cosmetics, often seeking out and testing new brands. She also enjoys exploring new restaurants and cafes, especially those that serve matcha!
