Bio

Ana Karina is a graduate student from the University of British Columbia where she received a Bachelor of Management (Hons.) with a minor in Economics. Coming from Mexico City, Ana Karina is deeply concerned about the unique challenges that rural communities face in terms of managing multiple, complex internal and external factors associated with the needs and priorities of different stakeholders.

For the last two years, Ana has worked in the field of sustainability management through various research projects. Ana was involved in the implementation of the Biosphere Initiative with the Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association and was an Undergraduate Research Assistant for three research journals on: Co-Creating Sustainable Rural Communities in the Okanagan. These allowed her to reflect on and challenge the current narrative on sustainability issues and further identified her interest in developing initiatives to be implemented in businesses and government, according to their respective strategic plans.

With the skills and experience Ana has gained from her past work and volunteer experiences, she will be able to play an active role in the development of sustainability throughout businesses. As well as, contribute to co-creating communities that are socially, economically and environmentally responsible by enhancing the collaboration between citizens, policy makers, industries and NGOs to find balance and improve quality of life.

Ana Karina is an enthusiastic curious leader, passionate for ballet, yoga, meditation and an advocate for healthy living.  She is always ready to put into practice her interdisciplinary and integrative thinking skills and come forward with valuable solutions to the current pressures faced by systems that require cross-disciplinary research, policies and actions.
