Bio
Harleen graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Sustainable Chemistry from McMaster University. During her undergraduate studies, she developed a strong interest in the intersection of sustainability, science, and spatial studies. She was particularly drawn to exploring how the chemical industry can adapt more sustainable practices, including reducing waste and improving environmental responsibility. A memorable experience in her coursework involved tracking her personal waste generation over a couple of weeks, which offered insight into the environmental footprint of individual habits and sparked her interest in environmental and public policy.
Building on these interests, Harleen gained experience in both environmental data analysis and municipal operations. On the technical side, she has worked on projects related to spatial analysis, infrastructure mapping, LiDAR analysis, and digitization of assets. In addition to these skills, she also gained valuable field experience, which provided insight into environmental issues and strengthened her understanding of sustainability in real-world contexts. These experiences have helped her shape her goals of contributing to sustainability through informed policy and data driven decisions. By participating in local events, she is also passionate about engaging her own community, with a strong interest in promoting environmental awareness and encouraging more local participation in sustainability efforts.
Outside of academics, Harleen enjoys spending her time crocheting, knitting, and painting. She’s always exploring new art mediums to try and expand her horizons. She also enjoys biking and exploring new trails in different cities.
