Kurt graduated from the University of Maryland in 2021 with bachelor's degrees in Environmental Science and Geographic Information Science. He has a passion for integrating sustainable practices into everyday activities and exploring how renewable energy can transform lives while combating the climate crisis. Kurt is currently pursuing his MScSM at UTM, where he will examine how policy can accelerate adoption of renewables and sustainable livelihoods.
Since completing his undergraduate, Kurt has worked in the environmental non-profit sector. Kurt started with Eden Reforestation Projects, a non-profit fighting poverty by employing people to plant trees in denuded areas. His role encompassed liaising between teams in Mozambique, Ethiopia, and Kenya, and business partners to ensure planting goals were being met and challenges were overcome. More recently, Kurt was with Verra, a non-profit that sets the standards for the carbon credit and sustainable development markets. As a sustainable development program officer, he reviewed and critiqued 200 plus projects seeking validation and/or verification approval of their environmental benefits across five continents.
When not in class, you can find Kurt playing disc golf, exploring nature, singing, or enjoying board games with friends.
