Tobias (Toby) grew up as a TCK (Third Culture Kid) on four continents. After being born and having lived in Fortaleza, Brazil, for five years, he moved with his family to Germany, where he visited elementary, and secondary school near Frankfurt am Main. Furthermore he attended four years of high school at the International School of Dakar in Senegal, where he found great inspiration in working within a highly concentrated, and culturally diverse environment. Driven by a growing international mindset, he developed an underlying passion for poverty alleviation and sustainable economic development. Throughout 2008 – 2010, Tobias travelled to Lusaka, Zambia to present a school project at the Global Issues Conference – Sustainable Africa, competed in an international soccer tournament held in Accra, Ghana, and spent time building houses with Habitat for Humanity in Senegal.

At the University of Richmond in Virginia, Tobias’ studies focused on corporate finance, investments, and international business opportunities. Via the liberal arts, he also enjoyed exploring the fine arts, particularly photography and design, in addition to catching up on classic German literature. In addition to his academic curriculum, Tobias applied his interest in technology by working as a consultant for 20 hours/week at the Technology Learning Center (TLC), working with faculty and staff in facilitating software for academic projects. In his final year he assumed the role of Student Manager, and led a team of 23 diverse employees. In Spring 2013, Tobias went on an exchange semester at the ESADE Business & Law School in Barcelona, Spain, and went on to complete an internship with Accenture in Frankfurt, Germany.

In 2014, Tobias joined the inaugural MScSM class at the University of Toronto, as he sought to combine his multiple personal interests and pursue opportunities in social entrepreneurship, impact investing, as well as corporate, and consumer sustainability in order to catalyze an equitable, prosperous, and responsible way of living throughout the world. After speaking with numerous exciting industry professionals throughout the year, Tobias spent the summer working in a quantitative analysis role on consulting and reporting optimization projects with Reclay StewardEdge in Toronto with the goal of developing efficient national and international waste management solutions. As Tobias enters the second year of his Master’s degree, he will be interning with Ashoka, in Toronto, to empower the network of social entrepreneurs in Canada, and establish strategic partnerships.
