Honours Bachelor of Science with Distinction in Earth Science and Business Management University of Toronto Mississauga

Bio

Reena graduated from the University of Toronto Mississauga in Fall, 2024 with an Honours Bachelor of Science, double majoring in Earth Science and Business Management. Her academic journey reflects her deep interest in bridging environmental science and corporate strategy, especially in resource-intensive industries like mineral mining. Through her multidisciplinary coursework in environmental geology, strategic management and data analytics—alongside applied fieldwork in Ontario—she developed a systems-thinking approach to sustainability.

Having grown up in Tanzania, Reena’s exposure to her family’s mining contracting business shaped her perspective on the trade-offs between industrial growth and environmental responsibility. These early insights continue to inspire her focus on integrating sustainability into the core of business operations, particularly in developing economies. She has worked across finance and operations at Ramani Investment Limited — a medium-sized mining contracting company in Tanzania, and previously interned with TotalEnergies gaining hands-on experience in compliance and legal coordination. She has also completed coursework toward certifications in risk and project management through the University of Toronto School of Continuing Studies, demonstrating her commitment to building practical industry-relevant expertise.

Beyond academics and professional pursuits, Reena has contributed to youth programming, student leadership, and a sustainability case completion. She co-founded the East African Community Club at U of T to build cultural awareness on campus, and continues to be involved in faith-based volunteering.

Her professional interests include ESG, corporate sustainability strategy, environmental risk management, and sustainable resource development, with a focus on applying sustainable practices in resource-intensive industries such as mining. Outside of the classroom, Reena enjoys playing football, cooking, going to the gym, hiking and volunteering through church.
