Gavin Sseninde holds a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science from the University of Ottawa.
Academically, they are deeply interested in environmental epigenetics and behavioral biology, specifically focusing on how early childhood socioeconomic and physical environments structurally influence long-term adult behavioral patterns and physiological health outcomes.
Professionally, Gavin has served as a Health and Safety Representative and Child and Youth Worker Lead at Evolving YouthCare Inc. In this role, they managed risk assessment frameworks, ensured strict compliance with regional health and safety protocols, and led a frontline team dedicated to implementing therapeutic behavioral interventions for youth in crisis. His commitment to community development is further demonstrated through their volunteer work with CATCHA and AZBGCK. As a Fundraising Coordinator and Lead Fundraiser for these organizations, they successfully strategized community outreach campaigns, coordinated large-scale charity events, and secured vital capital to support youth programming. Witnessing firsthand how systemic resources—or the lack thereof—alter a child's trajectory heavily shaped their research curiosity regarding the profound impacts of early environments on adulthood outcomes, ultimately inspiring them to pursue sustainable, systemic change through the MScSM program.
Outside of their academic and professional pursuits, Gavin is an avid athlete. They actively play soccer at both recreational and competitive levels, and they enjoy maintaining a rigorous physical fitness routine through weight training and boxing.
