Bio

In 2021, Rachel graduated from the Honours program in Rotman Commerce at the University of Toronto. During her undergraduate studies, her passion for sports drove her to captain the varsity field hockey team and compete on the Canadian National Team. During her time on the National Team, she trained for the 2022 Indoor World Cup. Additionally, during her undergrad she helped build a student group called Rotman Commerce Students in Sports which helped bridge the gap between Rotman Commerce students, particularly women, and the sports professional scene.

During, Rachel’s undergrad, she pursued initial interests in technology and finance which led her to working in those industries post under graduation. She joined IBM as an Oracle Consultant in Toronto where she contributed to the successful transition of a large utility company to a new Oracle system. This was a highlight of Rachel’s work experience because she saw how the project improved energy efficiency and reduced paper-based processes for the province of Alberta. Through her finance work experience as an Investment Banking Analyst, she was introduced to clean technology projects focusing on carbon capture and storage that caught her attention. Since then, her interest in the environmental sciences and solving sustainable problems has flourished. She has more recently worked with a hospital in Vancouver to help identify energy usage of medical equipment and has since wanted to learn more about sustainability and clean technology in the healthcare industry.

Outside of work experience, Rachel also wanted to see the impact climate change has had on a global scale, so she traveled to Asia and Europe to see its effects. Through this experience, Rachel saw the significant impact pollution has had on potable water, coral reefs, and breathable air across the continents. This further solidified Rachel’s passion for sustainability and continues to act as a motivator to help her contribute to solving the climate change problem.

In her spare time, Rachel is an avid reader in all thing’s science and business. She loves puzzles and is continuing her language learning in Spanish and German. As someone that grew up in Vancouver, she also loves the great outdoors, and is always up for a good hike.
