Bio
Usman graduated from Western University with a degree in Integrated Engineering, an interdisciplinary program in which he took environmental engineering and sustainability electives. As part of his capstone project during his undergraduate studies, he designed and implemented a home system for collecting food waste to create fertilizer. This, along with his coursework, sparked his interest in sustainability and shaped his career aspirations.
Professionally, Usman has worked in various business development roles in B2B SaaS startups. His roles spanned the full sales cycle- everything from initial prospecting to closing deals and customer success- as well as sales operations and team leadership. His journey eventually led him to Novisto, an ESG data management company, where he most recently worked on the enterprise sales team, building their sales pipeline and supporting sales operations. At Novisto, he gained a comprehensive understanding of ESG reporting and learned about the regulations that large public companies must comply with.
In addition to his professional experiences, Usman volunteered as a Team Lead for a climate action project, furthering his knowledge of sustainability issues.
Since graduating from university, he traveled to many countries across South America, Europe, and Asia. His trips to Pakistan and Costa Rica, in particular, influenced his decision to pursue graduate studies, as they highlighted the importance of education and its potential to make meaningful contributions to society.
He is particularly interested in exploring the intersection between economic growth and sustainability. He is an advocate for lifelong and interdisciplinary learning.
Outside his academic and professional pursuits, Usman enjoys reading non-fiction, writing, traveling, being in nature, fitness, and learning languages.
