Bachelor of Commerce, Marketing Management & Real Estate Management • Ryerson University
Jarid attended Ryerson University and graduated with distinction from the Bachelor of Commerce program with a double major in Marketing Management and Real Estate Management. Jarid’s interest in sustainability increased each year that Jarid spent his winters outdoors on a ski hill working as an instructor for skiing and snowboarding – his sensitivity to the importance of humanity’s impact on the environment developed with each passing winter. Jarid believes that businesses can help make a difference in preserving the environment rather than the ongoing harm that business has historically caused.
Last summer, Jarid worked as a Jr. Commercial Mortgage Analyst for a large independent mortgage financing company. While on the job, he learned many valuable lessons about the real estate industry, and himself. He realized he wanted the work he does to be meaningful and believes that with an education in sustainability, he can make a meaningful and positive impact through work on more than just the company’s profit margin. In February 2020, Jarid participated in a field course to the Northwest Territories that involved independent research of indigenous land use and the social, economic, and environmental impacts that resulted from restrictions on property rights and resource extraction on indigenous land. This summer, Jarid volunteered as a delivery driver for Sew for TO, a community initiative with the purpose of supplying non-medical masks and scrub caps to workers and community members in need during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In his spare time, Jarid prefers to spend his time outdoors. He enjoys reading, hiking, running, cycling, swimming, waterskiing/wakeboarding, and skiing/snowboarding. He is also an avid backpacker in search of adventure, and he loves travelling the world and experiencing new cultures when he has the time to do so.
