Bio

Raguram Bhaskar graduated from the University of British Columbia where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in Political Science with a minor in Commerce. His mission is to inspire and motivate local and global communities, businesses, and governments, to synergize and work together to take meaningful action towards solving the global climate change crisis. Hailing from Singapore, Raguram is always eager to share the successes of his country’s environmental initiatives and has taken great interest in the field of waste management and renewable energies. He has also produced research papers discussing air pollution, the impacts of fast-fashion, and nuclear energy policy during his time in university.

During his undergraduate years, Raguram attended a workshop for ‘Advocacy and Implementation of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals’, conducted by the Foundation for Environmental Stewardship at Simon Fraser University. This workshop proved useful for his volunteer work with the British Columbia Council for International Cooperation, an NGO that operates within the framework of the UN SDGs. Raguram also sought to increase his knowledge about the zero waste movement by attending the 2018 Zero Waste Conference in Vancouver. As an Analytical Assistant in BCCIC’s Climate Change Programme, Raguram was assigned to carry out research regarding waste management and local climate policy in BC to produce a policy report on waste management and municipal climate action that addressed the barriers faced by local governments in climate action. His commitment to sustainability and zero waste initiatives also led him to direct and facilitate a packaging take-back program for a privately owned business to divert waste from landfills.

Outside of his academic and professional ventures, Raguram has a deep passion for music and is an avid musician who enjoys playing various instruments (guitar, bass, drums, Indian flute). He also enjoys yoga, cooking, travelling, and football.
