Bio
Ibrahim El Haj holds an Honours Bachelor's degree in Sustainable Environmental Management from York University, where he gained a solid foundation in environmental policy, climate solutions, and sustainability practices. He was supervised by Dr. Jose Etcheverry and conducted research on the future of renewable energy systems with a focus on green hydrogen. His research was dedicated to the revolutionary potential of green hydrogen in decarbonizing the automotive sector, offering a viable alternative to electric and fossil fuel-based systems. Spurred on by a passion for innovation in renewable energy, he explored pyrolysis—a thermochemical process yielding green hydrogen as well as biochar. The dual-output process not only enables clean energy generation but also contributes to sustainable land use through carbon sequestration and soil rejuvenation.
Ibrahim's undergraduate career bridges applied environmental fieldwork with innovative thinking. As an Environmental Compliance Intern at Truckati Logistics LTD, he contributed to the near 15% reduction of fuel consumption on Toronto–California transport routes by optimizing logistics through strategic rerouting. He also aided in emissions monitoring, compliance audits, and corporate in-house sustainability measures, cultivating an understanding of corporate environmental strategy. At the same time, he was co-leader of a winning team in a City of Toronto case competition, presenting The Sandbox—a shared space inspired by 18th-century coffeehouses, where students address sustainability challenges posed by business and government. These initiatives cemented his passion for actionable, community-level climate solutions.
Ibrahim is both a player and fan of soccer who enjoys the strategy and teamwork in the sport, reflecting his own problem-solving style, which is collaborative in nature. He is also a travel enthusiast, making him increasingly interested in different cultures and environmental approaches around the world. In his spare time, he enjoys listening to indie music, which he finds both grounding and creatively inspiring.
