Muhammad is a committed, analytical, and results-oriented sustainability student who believes that the breadth of humanity's difficulties can only be surpassed by our desire to innovate. Muhammad is a long-time resident of Oakville/Mississauga and a student at the University of Toronto Mississauga. Muhammad began his academic career in general life sciences, then moved on to environmental science and biology. He aspires to leverage his environmental expertise and understanding of sustainability to help bridge the gap between environmental, economic, and social requirements in order to create a more inclusive and sustainable future for all.

Muhammad recently finished a summer position with the Sustainable Community Aid Network as a Loans & Grants Administrative Assistant. In this position, Muhammad main duties consisted of researching and identifying grant funding opportunities. Muhammad worked with the fundraising team to complete grant applications and proposals. Muhammad effectively and efficiently communicated with various target audiences and key stakeholders. Muhammad collaborated with the fundraising and leadership team to produce effective strategies in delivering and meeting income targets across a range of revenue streams. Muhammad developed new and creative fundraising activities including but not limited to organizing events, recruitment of individual and corporate sponsors, researching and writing grants. Muhammad evaluated the effectiveness of current initiatives and programs while developing and delivering new initiatives that build on their successes. Muhammad was highly successful in his role, having secured over 1 million dollars’ worth of grants for the organization and launched over five different programs.

Muhammad has also worked previously with Youth Challenge International as a Climate Action Catalyst. For this role, Muhammad along with four colleagues partnered with NGOs Evergreen and Environmental Defence to plan and implement a project that aims to provide underrepresented youth with the tools and training to address climate change issues in their communities through engagement with elected officials and local government, leading to youth-initiated, shared decisions. This collaborative outreach initiative will have a far-reaching and long-lasting impact in educating youth about climate change issues. Website:

Muhammad’s future ambitions are to broaden his horizons and immerse himself in other facets of sustainability. Coming from a science undergraduate degree, Muhammad especially wants to learn more about and gain experiences within the social and economic realms of sustainability. In his spare time, Muhammad enjoys a variety of outdoor activities such as hiking, biking and swimming, along with generally spending time around nature. Muhammad is also an avid cricket enthusiast and coach with a passion for helping players achieve their personal best
