Li Black

Li Black graduated from York University with a Bachelor of Arts in English and a minor in German Studies, spending two exchange semesters at the University of Konstanz in Germany, where she gained an appreciation for green innovation and infrastructure. As an undergraduate, Li was actively involved in planning social events (Founders College & Residence) to build community, raise awareness and promote education. She chaired the Founders Event Team and represented the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) as a Young Ambassador.

After graduation, Li worked in various administrative capacities, achieving an Innovation Award at Nestle and developing and implementing corporate environmental policies for several companies along the way. She relocated to Alberta and B.C., where her work included managing the office of a flood relief camp for over a thousand displaced residents. In Vancouver, she worked as the Sustainable Production Coordinator for an NBC Universal film where she facilitated and reported on specific measures taken by the production to lessen its environmental impact while conserving resources and materials.

Throughout the years, Li has worked and volunteered with humanitarian, environmental and disaster relief initiatives and organizations. Her goal is to be on the forefront of innovative, collaborative efforts to better understand, mitigate and adapt to socio-environmental problems. Fluent in English and Mandarin, with a love of culture, language and the arts, Li enjoys traveling, singing and acting, and looks forward to continuing to gain the skills and knowledge to become a leader in the field of sustainability management.
