Bio

Aliya Thathia completed her Honours Bachelor of Science in Biological Science at the University of Guelph, where she cultivated a strong interest in sustainability through coursework in environmental stewardship and integrative biology. Her academic pursuits emphasized interdisciplinary learning, leading her to explore the complex intersections between public health, environmental change, and equity-driven development. This academic foundation informed her commitment to advancing sustainability through innovative and inclusive strategies that promote environmental resilience, responsible development, and impactful organizational change.

Raised in the Democratic Republic of Congo and of Indian descent, Aliya brings a global perspective shaped by lived experience in regions facing water insecurity, pollution, and resource scarcity. She carries a deep awareness of the real-world impacts of environmental challenges on vulnerable communities. She has volunteered with community-led initiatives including Operation Smile and Who Is Hussain, supporting health and food equity campaigns and participating in international leadership conferences. Additionally, Aliya brings valuable experience in administrative roles, developed through her work in healthcare and educational settings, which has strengthened her interpersonal and organizational skills. Her undergraduate research included an evaluation of corporate ESG strategies and a group case study on Rio de Janeiros implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. These experiences honed her skills in stakeholder engagement, research synthesis, and systems-based thinking. She also completed a certificate in Environmental Conservation and earned Deans Honours List standing in Fall 2024, recognizing her academic excellence.

Aliya is drawn to work that intersects science, strategy, and social impact. She is especially interested in sustainable construction, climate and energy innovation, and corporate social responsibility, with the long-term goal of helping organizations integrate sustainability into core decision-making. Outside of her professional and academic work, Aliya enjoys exploring new cities, curating creative events, and delving into visual arts and design.
