Matthew Wu

Matthew Wu is a graduate from Carleton University studying public policy, with a concentration in international relations and minor in French. His interest in sustainability was shaped by coursework in researching complex policy issues that plague the world and work experiences in government and the non-profit sector where he realized that the various social, political, and environmental issues of the present stem from structural inadequacies in the foundation of current society and the economy.

During his undergraduate years, Matthew became a policy intern at Efficiency Canada, a non-profit think tank that advocates for governments to pursue and incentivize sustainable energy initiatives for a productive economy and equitable future. At Efficiency Canada, Matthew was a co-author for a scorecard report evaluating each province and territory’s energy policies and how they support or lag behind in implementing Canada’s goal of net-zero emissions by 2050, being the lead author analyzing provincial transportation policies and energy efficiency initiatives in the territories. His knowledge is supplemented by co-op terms in the Government of Canada, where he engaged with the oil and gas sector on reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the industry.  

Matthew enjoys event-planning initiatives to build connections between students passionate about a subject and experts in the field. He has led various student clubs in recruiting guest speakers, organizing conferences, and collaborating with team members to coordinate event logistics for creating networking opportunities for fellow students.

As an avid knowledge seeker, Matthew enjoys learning about history, politics, and their intersection as the root cause of current events in the world. Aside from school, he can be found learning new languages, watching sports, or exploring new transit routes for sightseeing.
