Bio

Sophia Gravel graduated from Huron at Western University with a Bachelor of Management and Organizational Studies, where she specialized in Marketing & Sustainability and majored in Governance, Leadership & Ethics. Her academic background includes sustainability marketing, marketing research, collaborative governance, municipal policy, and leadership studies. Throughout her academics, Sophia developed a strong interest in how collaborative governance processes can be used to tackle issues pertaining to the environment. She also developed both an interest and practical skills at the intersection of marketing and sustainability, particularly in using communication tools to support more responsible and environmentally conscious decision making. 

Professionally, Sophia served on the Huron University College Student Council, a student led not-for-profit organization, most recently as Associate Vice President of Publications and Website. In this paid leadership role, she managed and redesigned the Council's website, increasing viewership by 36%, oversaw the production of the Council newsletter, growing subscriptions by 524%, and led the creation of the graduating class yearbook. She also helped promote student events and sustainability initiatives through marketing and communications efforts. Sophia also volunteers with BurlingtonGreen, where she helps support community events focused on environmental awareness and local sustainability.  

Outside of academics, Sophia enjoys listening to music and hosted her own radio show on 94.9 Radio Western, where she curated weekly music selections and facilitated discussions on topics of interest to listeners. Sophia also has a passion for sustainable fashion and enjoys secondhand shopping and supporting clothing brands that prioritize ethical and environmentally responsible practices.
