Bio

Theresa graduated from UBC’s Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences department with a Combined Major in Oceanography and Biology. Her degree focused on the physical, chemical, and biological interactions present in marine systems, as well as the interaction between land and ocean systems. Born and raised on the west coast between oceans and mountains, Theresa wants to ensure that future generations can experience the same awe-inspiring scenery. As such, she is passionate about exploring sustainable, solution-oriented approaches to conservation, particularly within the marine environment.

Having worked in various roles and industries, Theresa has developed strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills while incorporating her passion for sustainability into each role. As an Office Manager for North Water Paddle Sports, she facilitated research investigating ways in which the company could minimize their greenhouse gas emissions during the manufacturing process. Also, Theresa strives to promote scientific literacy and communication to a broader audience. Through the Earth Symphony Project, she analyzed datasets that represented anthropogenic-induced ecological changes throughout the last half-century and aided in their conversion to music to educate the public about climate change in an innovative manner. Through the MScSM program, she hopes to further explore interdisciplinary approaches in developing holistic strategies for conservation.

In her spare time, Theresa enjoys being outdoors and staying active through running, hiking, and biking. She also loves participating in local beach clean-ups, travelling and exploring new cultures, reading, and watching documentaries.
