Randy Aujla
Hey everyone, my name is Randy! I am currently in my fourth year studying Digital Enterprise Management. What inspired me to get involved with UTM Moves was the opportunity to meaningfully connect students with one another while fostering a fun, positive atmosphere on campus. As this year's Mentorship Lead and Move Mentor, I am looking forward to supporting the development, implementation, and evaluation of the Move Mentors Mentorship Program. In addition, I want to empower students to achieve their health, wellness, fitness and athletic goals while endorsing the numerous services/events UTM has to offer. Physical activity is important to wellbeing and academic success since it allows you to release any built up stress, making you feel more relaxed and focused on doing tasks afterwards. One piece of advice I would give to someone who wants to start their fitness/wellness journey is to attend a drop-in session for a sport they are interested in. Even if you are going by yourself, this is a great way to meet new people and make friends! In terms of my daily routine, I stay active by going for walks. A fun fact about me is that I like to create art and consider myself to be a sociable person
Aaron Calpito
Hi! I'm Aaron, and I'm a fourth-year anthropology and political science double major and environmental management minor. I'm excited to join the Move Mentor team to help introduce students to on-campus fitness programs and fun things to do at the RAWC, especially students who are hesitant to step outside their comfort zone. With how busy and hectic academic life at UTM can be, I've found that even just a little bit of regular physical activity can do wonders to put you in the right headspace, keep you in good health, and shake up the slog of coursework. Oftentimes, taking that first step (into the gym, onto the UTM Nature Trail, etc.) is all it takes! Some fun facts about me are that I run a club for introverts, I love em dashes, and I've changed my POSt seven times.
Natasha Majumder
Hi, I’m Natasha (she/her)! I’m a third-year CCIT student who loves exploring how communication, culture, and technology shape the way we connect with each other.
As a Move Mentor, I’m most excited to support mentees one-on-one and help them find movement that actually feels fun and achievable. I love creating a space where people feel encouraged, comfortable and confident exploring what wellness looks like for them.
I think physical activity is so important for wellbeing and academic success because it helps you reset, boosts your mood and makes it easier to stay focused. Moving your body (even in small ways) really shifts your mindset and gives you the energy to show up better in school and life! It's like nature's coffee but without the random adrenaline rush (which can be quite unhealthy)!
Fun facts about me: I’m surprisingly good at axe throwing, I treat hydration like a competitive sport and I walk at Olympic speed if there’s bubble tea waiting for me at the end. I also fully believe that carrying all my groceries in one trip counts as strength training and honestly... it kind of does.
Ryan Nishimura
My name is Ryan (he/him), and I am a third-year sociology student. I am looking forward to being a moves mentor so that I can create an environment where students feel comfortable with being active and know that there is a community that supports them in their wellness journey.
I believe that physical activity is important to both wellbeing and academic success because it goes far beyond just benefitting the body; it improves mental health and relaxes the mind. As university students, this is important because it eases tensions with academic stress and helps us navigate through it. In addition, some fun facts about me are that I am decent at ice skating, and I am currently teaching myself how to play the guitar.
Angelina Itwaru
Hi! I'm Angelina (she/her). I'm a fourth-year student, and I'm majoring in Psychology and double minoring in Anthropology
and French Studies. A piece of advice I have for those who are starting their fitness journeys is to find an activity that reflects who you are as a person and that makes you happy :)
Sarah Alshammaa
Hi! My name is Sarah Alshammaa (she/her) and I am going into my third year at UTM, pursuing a Biotechnology Specialist with a minor in Chemistry. I joined UTM Moves to get more involved in mentorship and to help create a welcoming community where students feel supported in their wellness journey. I think physical activity is important to wellbeing and academic success because it helps reduce stress, boosts focus, and improves overall mood. My advice for anyone starting out is to workout with a friend because it makes the experience less intimidating and a lot more fun! I enjoy going to the gym while listening to a podcast since it makes my workouts more enjoyable and helps me feel like I am multitasking. Outside of school and fitness, I love spending time with my cat Nova, who I proudly say is the cutest cat ever.
