EDS388H5 – Experiential Learning Opportunity within the Community
This internship is a minimum 100-hour experiential learning opportunity. The internship connects the student's subject specialization to aspects of the teaching/training development profession. It will integrate, extend, and deepen the learning experience as students begin to identify particular academic or professional insights. Prior to enrollment, internship proposals must be approved by the program coordinator. As part of this course, students may have the option of participating in an international learning experience that will have an additional cost and application process.

Note: Applicants must submit an application for admission into the course to their respective departments and will be required to abide by the corresponding UTM Abroad application requirements and deadlines to participate in the international experience.
Trip - California
Approximate Travel Date: Friday, February 17, 2023 – Sunday, February 26, 2023
Travel from San Francisco to the coast of California to learn about and discover the future of Ed-tech. Regions of Silicon Valley, Cupertino, Pasadena, Montecito, and Los Angeles are leading the way in Ed-tech developments – working together to reimagine the future of teaching and learning. Using cutting-edge innovation in new tech, they have the potential to improve access, remove barriers and reduce gaps to meet the needs of all learners. Tour Los Angeles and meet leaders and students alike in the largest school district in the United States. End your trip to California with a visit to the LA Museum of Tolerance. Together with Professor Liz Coulsen and your classmates, explore, assess, and evaluate the viability and impact of the area of the world equipped to deliver a more equitable future for schools.

Itinerary*

Begin the trip with a tour of San Francisco, the cultural, commercial and financial center of California. Learn more about Ed-Tech from technology giants and their role in improving education. Tour sites like the Innovation Hub as well as Standford with a focus on Ed-tech. You will get the chance to participate in a guided visit to Googleplex and Apple Park as well as the Meta headquarters.
Travel from San Francisco to the “celebrity enclave” Montecito, California, where you will be able to explore the town to your heart's content. From Montecito, you will then travel to the sprawling city of Los Angeles, home to the famous Hollywood sign. In Los Angeles, you will get the chance to spend time with High Tech Summer School and visit the LA Museum of Tolerance. To end the trip, you will have time to explore the city of Los Angeles and all that it has to offer.
