The Course

ITA235H5 • Cucina Italiana: Italian History and Culture Through Food

(Offered in English) This course charts the regional diversity of Italian food and examines various factors (early settlers, wars, migratory trends) that have shaped Italian culinary traditions. Students will also have the opportunity to explore their own culinary traditions. Students have the option of participating in local and international field trips (to restaurants, factories, and farms). When travel experiences are offered, additional costs and application processes apply.

The Trip: Italy Fall Reading Week

Approximate Travel Dates: Friday October 6th, 2023- Sunday, October 15th, 2023

Estimated cost of International Component 2023-2024: *CAD $3,850.00 - 4,150.00

What is Included: Flights, transportation, accommodation, meals, in-country activities associated with the course, and trip-cancellation insurance. Funding Available! 

What is NOT Included: Course fees, fees associated with supplemental travel insurance, additional optional tours/activities while abroad, visa applications, medical exams, vaccinations, and any other additional costs. 



Bursaries will be awarded based on demonstrated financial need (not linked to OSAP) as shown in your funding request in your UTM Abroad application. Read more about funding here

  • The cost and itinerary are subject to change.
  • Students must be enrolled in ITA235H5F and will be required to abide by the corresponding UTM Abroad application requirements and deadlines to participate in the international experience.
  • Fees must be paid in full by the required deadlines.
  • To prepare for the trip, students attending will participate in mandatory pre-departure and safety abroad sessions.​
