 Program Overview

The Black Youth Mentorship Program (BYMP) at UTM supports Black youth ages 9-14 years old in Peel and Halton Regions to improve their academic performance, strengthen awareness of resources, create a safe space for relationship building and dialogue among peers, and foster a sense of belonging. By connecting Black youth to self-identified Black UTM students of African and Caribbean descent, the BYMP at the University of Toronto Mississauga empowers and inspires Black youth to create their unique narratives and pathways to success and prepares them to be strong advocates for their communities. The Black Youth Mentorship Program is delivered in a format group and in person.

All Black Youth Mentorship Program mentors are encouraged and supported in using their experiences to help their mentees navigate academia and society as Black students. Through an interactive, thought-provoking, and engaging curriculum developed by UTM mentors, Black Youth Mentorship Program youth explore notions of Blackness, art, civic engagement, STEM/ STEAM and education pathways.

This program runs every Monday evening from 6:45 pm-8:30 pm, in-person, at UTM starting mid-October 2023 through to mid-March 2024.
