Before
- Identify your top 1-2 questions or concerns to keep the conversation focused on what's most important to you.
- Take a few minutes to read through helpful websites. Familiarize yourself with relevant academic policies, processes, or requirements.
- Please be 5-10 minutes early
- Joining in person? Have a seat by our front desk. Your advisor will come and greet you when it's time for your appointment.
- Joining virtually? Find a quiet or private space (or use headphones). Access the meeting link in your confirmation email, and make sure your internet connection is stable.
During
- Take notes to help you remember our discussion.
- Ask questions! Let us know if we can clarify any points of our discussion.
- Make sure you leave knowing your next steps. If you're not sure, please clarify with your advisor.
- Work with your advisor to determine if you need another appointment.
After Your Appointment
- Review any online resources that your advisor recommended.
- Work on your action plan.
- Write down follow-up questions or notes that you want to follow-up on. Come back and see us as needed!
Cancelling or rescheduling your appointment
Open your confirmation email and click the "Reschedule" button to manage your booking. No explanation needed.
Keeping your appointment up-to-date is a small but important gesture. It means that another student can take your appointment slot if you no longer need it.
