September Soar is an orientation program for incoming UTM students, introducing them to their new campus, peers, and resources to succeed in their first year!

How to Attend Orientation 2023

Welcome Eagles to the beginning of your UTM Journey!

Bring your T-card with you as you will check-in prior to each event at the respective check-in tables located throughout campus. Still need to get your TCard? You can find details on the New Student Website

Getting to Campus

Tips for the Week

  • Dress for the weather and for adventure. At our various events you will have the opportunity to explore our beautiful campus from inside and out. We highly recommend you wear comfortable shoes and be ready for some warm weather or rain showers!
  • Hydration is key, bring your refillable water bottles and fill-up at the water stations on campus.
  • Be ready for a week full of free food, merchandise giveaways, and opportunities to meet the UTM community and your peers.

Schedule 

Sheridan Orientation 

August 28 (Virtual) and September 1 (Trafalgar Campus) 

Students enrolled in Sheridan courses will have the chance to learn about the school, hear upper-year student experiences and complete important tasks to get ready for the start of term. For more information visit: Sheridan Orientation 2023.

  • Students pursuing studies in Art & Art History should plan to attend the Academic Department Orientation on the Trafalgar campus on September 5th from 1-4PM. Transportation will be provided after the Visual Studies ADO (details in the chart below!). 

Parents, Families, and Supporters Orientation 

September 2, 10:00AM - 5:00PM | Instructional Building (IB)

Chill, Play and Slay the Day with UTM

September 2, 10:00AM - 3:00PM | Instructional Building (IB) and Maanjiwe nendamowinan Field and Patio (MN)

Stations scattered across campus, allowing students to de-stress, shop with local vendors, and have fun ahead of their first semester!

Academic Department Orientation (ADO)

September 5, 11:00AM - 1:00PM 

Meet representatives of your intended area of study (faculty, academic advisors, student society leaders, and library liaisons) to build a sense of familiarity with your academics. This is also a great opportunity to meet some new classmates who just might become your peers!

Discover all of the key resources and supports on campus that are available to you, ensuring you make the most of your time at UTM. From academic support, community building initiatives, or health & well-being support, there will be a wide variety of campus departments in one spot for you to explore!

Black Excellence Orientation - Bonnet and Durag Bash

September 5, 4:00PM - 8:00PM | 4th Floor Maanjiwe Nendamowinan Terrace (MN)

This mix and mingle event will allow Black-identifying students to get acquainted with their new campus and bond their new community through fun activities and socials. Campus Bites and Sights

September 6, 10:00AM - 2:00PM | Instructional Building (IB) 

Tour guides will give you a walkthrough of our campus, highlighting key spots, study areas, dining halls, and UTM’s history. This is a great opportunity to ask questions regarding life on campus! Afterwards, you can wind down with refreshments and snacks!


Credit River Cleanup

September 6, 2:00PM - 5:00PM | Instructional Building (IB) 

Engage with your community and collaborate new peers as you help clean up litter along the credit river shore. Join fellow students in making a positive impact on our local community while also having fun and meeting new people!


Taste of UTM

September 7, 10:30AM - 3:00PM | Communications, Culture, & Technology Building (CCIT), Instructional Building (IB), and the Recreational, Athletics, and Wellness Centre (RAWC)

In between classes, various departments on campus will be host informational tables, allowing you to engage with the resources available to you and learn about upcoming opportunities! This is a great way to build a sense of curiosity and community on campus!
