The International and New-to-Canada Student Welcome (INSW) is an initiative hosted by the International Education Centre (IEC) to help international students understand the various services and programs available within the UTM community to assist with their success. This event is specially designed to ensure that you feel right at home as you embark on this exciting chapter of your academic journey. 

Last day to register is Monday, September 4th at 11:59 pm! Don't miss out on this amazing opportunity!

Join us on Tuesday, September 5th from 9 am to 11 am (EST). 

 

Why should you attend INSW?

INSW aims to create a safe environment for incoming international students where they will have the chance to make connections with each other, meet our supportive staff, and fellow students who will be your friends and allies throughout your time at the university.  

We have prepared an engaging lineup of activities, workshops, and informative sessions to help you settle in, find your way around campus, and familiarize yourself with the fantastic resources and services available to you.

Alexie Tcheuyap

Associate Vice-President and Vice Provost International Student Experience  

Professor Tcheuyap aids the University of Toronto in promoting international engagement by creating global opportunities for its students. He oversees the Centre for International Experience and works with the Vice-Provost, Students to enhance learning abroad opportunities. He also focuses on ensuring a positive experience for international students and seeking global partnerships that align with these objectives. 

Simar Talwar

Simar Talwar is an Honors Bachelor of Commerce Candidate at the University of Toronto majoring in Economics and specializing in Accounting. He is the current Recruitment director of the Sikh Student Association and was an associate in the previous year of the same organization. He has also served on the board of directors as finance director at ‘the medium’, a University of Toronto Mississauga campus newspaper founded in 1974 and has previously written articles for the same newspaper in past. He has also served as community director for Leacock Lane residence when he lived on campus and managed and did events for his community and campus.

Ruiqiu (Rachel) Shen

Rachel Shen is currently in her fifth year of undergrad at UTM, studying in the Psychology Specialist Program. She is not working at the front desk of the IEC as the Senior Operations Assistant and had run a Chinese student club called Mood Psychology@UTM before she started working at the IEC. She loves K-POP and strolling along the streets!

Adriana Rosas

Adriana Rosas is an international student at UTM going into her 4th and last year of study doing a Bachelor of Commerce with a Specialist in Finance and a Major in Economics. She was born and raised in Lima, Peru and moved to Toronto at the age of 19 to pursue her university degree. In these couple of years living by herself, she was well involved in the UTM community by living in residence, having a work-study program and participating in clubs which allowed her to make meaningful connections and strengthen her personal development.
