Student Group Events at UTM Orientation

In an effort to create the most welcoming and inclusive orientation at the University of Toronto Mississauga, Recognized Student Groups are able to host events for new to UTM students during UTM Orientation. These events will be submitted to the UTM Orientation team for approval and once approved will be added into the UTM Orientation schedule.  
 

Proposal Process

Proposals for UTM Orientation 2026 are now open and can be submitted here. 

The Deadline for proposals is Friday June 26 2026 at 5:00pm. 

What you can expect from the process:

  1. Fill out the proposal form found here. It will collect basic contact information and event details.
  2. Once your event has been process the UTM Orientation team will reach out to meet with you and your group to confirm event details and go over funding proposals.
  3. After this meeting your group will confirm any necessary details and submit a funding proposal through Service Now. Instructions for this are found in our funding guide here.
  4. You will receive a confirmation email from the orientation team to confirm your event details and let you know next steps including funding, catering deadlines, marketing for your event and any support required.
  5. You will then host your event during orientation as planned.
  6. After orientation you will complete your funding request submitting your receipts and necessary details. Instruction found in our funding guide here. 

If you are interested in hosting an event but are not sure about what you would like to host or would like support with planning your event. The UTM Orientation team will be hosting proposal support meetings going until June 24 2026. You can sign up for one of these planning meeting by emailing the orientation team your availability. UTM Orientation Events Funding

We have established a fund to support recognized student groups in executing and delivering events during UTM’s Orientation Week. The fund is intended to support the delivery of orientation programming that: 

  • Specifically for new-to-UTM student success and provides information, skills, and/or community-building spaces tailored for this specific student population
  • Creates spaces for students to make friends and build long-lasting community
  • Geared towards the successful transition of new-to-UTM students into university life
  • Allows for UTM to offer a free orientation program 

UTM Orientation Fund will administer funding as per the University of Toronto’s Guide to Financial Management for tracking, recording and disbursement of funds. This includes but is not limited to: internal expense recoveries, procurement of services, and gift cards and honorariums. In order to receive these funds you must read the funding guide which will be emailed to your group after you submit your proposals. 

If your funding request is not covered by the UTM Orientation fund you can also request funding through the Student Groups Summer Funding which closes August 14 2026.
