A Day in My Life

Amy Sylvester-Omorodion

Hey there! My name is Amy, and I'm currently in my fourth year studying Biology for Health Science. I wanted to give you an inside look at what my daily life is like as a full-time student and a part-time Student Ambassador. Follow along to see what my typical day entails!

6:30am – 7:45am

I kick off my day early to get a jumpstart on the tasks I have planned for the day. To start things off right, I squeeze in a quick 15-minute workout in my room. Then I refill my water bottle, and jot down all the important tasks I want to accomplish for the day in my agenda.

After a refreshing shower and getting dressed, I tackle one work task from my agenda. Once it's done, I head downstairs to make my delicious signature egg bacon and avocado sandwich for breakfast and lunch before catching the bus to head to my part-time job.

As a Student Ambassador, I spend my mornings working at the Student Recruitment and Admissions Office (SRA) located in the Innovation Complex. My role is to support the recruitment of qualified students and provide events throughout the year to introduce them to the campus, staff, lecture halls, labs, etc. During my shift, I help guide prospective students through the application process and answer any questions they may have. Plus, I often get to enjoy some snacks with my colleagues, which is always a bonus!

After my shift, I catch up with a few friends before heading to class in the Culture, Communication, and Technology building where I take classes for my Biomedical Communications Minor.

After class, we head to the Davis Building to grab some food at our favourite spots: Thai Express and Tim Hortons.

Once we finish eating lunch, we either find a common area or book a study room to make notes and study for our classes.

5:30pm – 7:00pm

Now that the semester has begun, classes are a bit more relaxed, but I use this time to get ahead on my work and plan for future assessments. We usually study in Maanjiwe Nendamowinan (MN), the Library study rooms, or the open desk tables.

The Library is the perfect spot for us because we have access to sign out laptops, books, chargers, and even headphones provided by the front desk.

If I have extra time, I work on applications for grad school, personal projects, and plan graduation festivities with my best friends. These next few months are particularly exciting as we book and plan for graduation photos and celebration festivities.

Once I feel ready to leave, I take the bus home from the bus stop located right outside of the Kaneff Centre.

7:30pm – 10:30pm

Once I arrive home, I make myself some dinner and just relax by either reading my book, answering messages and video chatting my friends and family.

I also make sure to take some time to unwind before going to bed and get a good night's rest to start the next day!

Thank you for taking the time to read about my daily routine as a student and student ambassador. I hope you enjoyed learning more about my experiences!
