Deferring Your Admission

You may request a one-year deferral of your offer of admission if you are unable to begin your degree studies this fall. Non-degree and Bridging Pathway offers are not eligible for deferral.

A deferral of your offer of admission is not guaranteed and will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Approved deferral requests will include a deferral of any entrance scholarship(s) awarded and the residence guarantee (if applicable).

To be eligible to request a deferral you must meet the following requirements:

  • Accept your offer of admission to the University;
  • Pay the $1,000 Admission Deposit, if you are an international fee paying student;
  • Meet all conditions stated in your offer of admission;
  • Confirm that you do not plan to study at another post-secondary institution, or complete any studies that would change your basis of admission.

The form will be available on the Offer of Admission page within the JOIN U of T website for those students who meet the requirements listed above. The deadline to submit a Request for Deferral is September of the same year you were originally scheduled to begin your studies with us. The deadline for newly admitted students (September 2022) is September 15, 2022.

If you miss the deferral deadline, you will have to reapply for admission in a future session. We suggest you submit your deferral request as soon as your official, final transcripts are available. Finally, if your deferral request is granted, Student Recruitment & Admissions will ensure your course enrolment for the 2022-2023 academic year is adjusted and tuition is refunded (if applicable).
