Undergraduate Advising Hours

The health, safety and well-being of our community members is very important to us. As of March 13, 2020, due to the current situation with COVID-19, we are offering remote undergraduate advising only. There are no in-person appointments at this time until further notice.

Before you request advising

Please check the following links. You will find clear and helpful answers to many questions, 24 hours a day, seven days a week:

If your question is not answered in the above locations, please follow the steps below for:

  • Email advising
  • Virtual drop-in hours (via email)
  • Zoom advising appointments

How to request email advising

Send an email from your mail.utoronto.ca U of T email account to utm.anthro@utoronto.ca with the following information:

  1. Your first and last name
  2. Your student number
  3. The reasons for your advising request (what information you are seeking)

The Undergraduate Advisor will reply to your email, so please check your mail.utoronto.ca account regularly. If you need further information you can request a Zoom advising appointment.

Virtual drop-in hours

In lieu of in-person drop-in hours, we have dedicated drop-in hours to respond to your questions via email. Send your question from your @mail.utoronto.ca account to utm.anthro@utoronto.ca, during the published drop-in hours (see calendar below) and you will be guaranteed that a reply will be sent from the UTM Anthropology Undergraduate Advisor during that day’s drop-in hours. Should extenuating circumstances* prevail and an immediate reply is not possible during the drop-in period, then you will be notified as to when a reply will be sent during the next 24 hrs. Please note that these drop-in inquiries are meant to be used for a quick reply to a specific question. If a longer discussion is necessary, we recommend that you book an advising zoom appointment (see instructions below).

*Examples of extenuating circumstances include a higher than normal volume of inquiries or your question is received at 11:59 am and the drop-in hours end at 12 noon, to name a few.

How to request advising appointments via Zoom

If you wish to request a Zoom advising appointment to discuss your question or concern, please send an email with the following information:

  1. Your preferred date and time for a Zoom appointment (must be between 9:30am-4pm Monday - Friday EST)
  2. Your first and last name
  3. Your student number
  4. The reasons for your advising request (what information you are seeking)

The default length for most Zoom appointments is 30 minutes. We may not be able to accommodate same-day meetings on the day you send your request.

IMPORTANT information for Zoom advising appointments:

  • Check your utoronto email address for an email from the Undergraduate Advisor confirming your appointment date and time. If you do not receive a confirmation email from the Undergraduate Advisor then your appointment has not been booked.
  • No reminder email will be sent.
  • Students who are more than 10 minutes late for their Zoom appointment will forfeit their appointment time.
  • Emergencies may arise which may affect scheduled appointments.  Please note that available advising hours can change without prior notice.  We will do our best to contact you via email if an appointment booking must be cancelled or rescheduled.
