The Robert Gillespie Academic Skills Centre is now accepting FSG Facilitators for Fall 2023
FSGs are weekly study group sessions led by volunteer senior students who have previously taken and done well in their course. Each week, they develop activities that focus on specific academic skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, or note-taking, in the context of the course.
- What is an FSG Facilitator? Facilitators are volunteer senior students who have performed strongly in a course. They lead weekly study groups for students currently taking the course that build learning strategies, skills, and tools for success in the class.
- What Do FSG Facilitators Gain? CCR notation, opportunities for professional and leadership development, support in building their facilitator portfolio.

Schoolhouse-KWiK: A UofT In-House Tutoring Research Initiative (with $5,000 honorarium lottery)
Schoolhouse-KWiK are looking for additional UofT volunteers to receive CCR credit, a valuable addition to their resume, and a chance to win a $5000 honorarium lottery in exchange for providing at least 90 minutes on Zoom each week to help struggling Grade 4-9 Toronto District School Board students.
The program is part of a research pilot called Schoolhouse-KWiK, in which teachers are trained to use Khan Academy in their classrooms, and struggling students are offered additional help working through their math homework assignments by meeting with a virtual tutor once a week after school.
After signing up to volunteer and indicating availability, tutors will receive up to 30 minutes of training and can expect to tutor students as early as October 4th. The use of Khan Academy assignments provides structure for tutoring sessions, making it easier to assist students with little preparation time beforehand.
If you have any questions about Schoolhouse-KWiK, please email Professor Philip Oreopoulos at philip.oreopoulos@utoronto.ca.
