Research Assistant (Casual, 6-month term, proposed contract dates July 1, 2025-December 31, 2025)

The Department of Anthropology at UTM invites applications for a Research Assistant (Casual) at $30/hour. The Research Assistant will be working under the supervision of Dr. Hiliary Monteith and Dr. Tracey Galloway to assist in updating a data repository. Specifically, the Research Assistant’s primary responsibilities include data entry of new data sources related to the Nutrition North Canada Retail Subsidy Program; data review to correct previous entries and ensure consistency; and working closely with the research team to do initial modeling of the data.
The Research Assistant will be responsible for:
- Meeting regularly with the research associate and supervisor.
- Entering new data into the data repository in a timely and organized manner.
- Reviewing the repository for consistency and correcting any errors.
- Working with the research team to produce initial data tables and figures.
Qualifications:
Undergraduate degree in a relevant area of Anthropology, Nutritional Sciences, Indigenous Studies, or closely related fields, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Currently pursuing or completion of a Masters in these fields would be an asset.
Skills:
- Strong skills in Microsoft Excel and numerical data entry.
- Statistical data analysis experience.
- Self-motivated with an ability to multi-task.
- Ability to work in a collaborative group.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with completion of agreed upon tasks in a timely manner.
Other:
- Preference will be given to candidates with research and data entry experience.
