2020 Annual Research Prize Symposium


The UTM Annual Research Prizes were established by the Office of the Vice-Principal, Research and UTM’s Research Council in 2016 to recognize outstanding contributions of early career researchers and scholars in the Humanities, Sciences and Social Sciences.

All four of the 2020 UTM Annual Research Prize Recipients are being celebrated at a Research Prize Symposium in their honour.

The recipients for the 2020 Annual Research Prizes at U of T Mississauga are the following:


UTM ANNUAL RESEARCH PRIZE IN THE HUMANITIES

Professor Boris Chrubasik from the Department of Historical Studies was selected for his outstanding contributions to the study of the political and cultural history of the Eastern Mediterranean from the Achaemenid to the late Hellenistic periods. 

 

UTM ANNUAL RESEARCH PRIZE IN THE SCIENCES

Professor Shannon McCauley from the Department of Biology was selected for her outstanding contributions to ecology through her studies of the dispersal of aquatic insects and the structure of aquatic environments.

Professor Laura Brown from the Department of Geography, Geomatics and Environment for her outstanding contributions to the study of the impact of climate change of high latitude lakes.

 

UTM ANNUAL RESEARCH PRIZE IN THE SOCIAL SCIENCES

Professor Liye Xie from the Department of Anthropology was selected for her outstanding contributions to the study of the impact of technology on society with an emphasis on  preindustrial technologies  such as bone, stone, and earthen construction.
