Medical Care

The UTM Health & Counselling medical staff is experienced in working with diverse university populations and is comfortable discussing all topics related to student health and wellness.

Students can make appointments with one of the student-friendly physicians or nurses to discuss a wide range of health concerns including:

  • First aid of injuries
  • Sports injuries
  • Immunizations
  • Allergies
  • Chronic illnesses
  • Physical exams
  • Cold & flu
  • Referrals to speciality
  • Birth control
  • Sexually transmitted infections (STIs)
  • Pregnancy testing

Cancellation of a regular 15 minute medical appointment requires at least 4 "business" hours notice. Failure to give proper notification will result in a charge of $40 to you.

Cancellation of an annual physical appointment requires at least 24 hours notice*. Failure to give proper notification will result in a charge of $60 to you.

*Cancellation of a physical appointment booked for a MONDAY, MUST be canceled by Friday afternoon 3 pm.

Counselling & Psychiatric Care

In addition to the medical care provided by the physicians and nurses, the HCC offers personal counselling or group counselling to assist students experiencing a wide range of challenges including:

  • Short-term and crisis support
  • Body image
  • Eating disorders
  • Self-esteem
  • Coming out
  • Transitioning
  • Family conflict
  • Grieving
  • Relationships
  • Emotional or social concerns
  • Depression
  • Apathy
  • Exam anxiety
  • Referrals to specialists

Cancellation of a psychiatric or personal counselling appointment requires at least 24 hours notice. Failure to give proper notification will result in a charge to you of $100 for psychiatric appointments and $60 for counselling appointments.

Health Education & Promotion

Peer health education serves as an integral component of the student outreach efforts of the UTM Health & Counselling Centre. The Wellness Ambassadors Program provides students with information, tools, and resources to empower them to make healthy choices in support of their personal and academic goals; and supports the development of healthy systems and structures that encourage and foster student health and well-being on campus.

Other Services

The Health & Counselling Centre offers an assortment of other services to the student population. Some of these include:

  • Issuing Medical Certificates (e.g., T.B.)
  • Dispensing single doses of over-the-counter medication (e.g., Tylenol, cold medications, Gravol, Immodium)
  • Dispensing birth control pills at a modest cost (requires prescription from UTM physician)
  • Providing free condoms
  • Drawing blood samples
  • Selling feminine hygiene products

Cancellation Policy

If you are unable to attend any scheduled appointment we ask that you phone the Centre to cancel the appointment as soon as possible. This allows us to make the time available to other students.

Failure to attend a scheduled appointment or to provide sufficient notice of a cancellation will result in a personal fine ranging between $40 and $100 depending upon the type of appointment.

Your email will be sent to the proper personnel for processing. Please allow 5-7 days for a response.
