The International Foundation Program (IFP) is a unique offering that combines conditional acceptance to the University of Toronto with intensive English language instruction and academic skills development instruction, combined with for-credit courses. The IFP is available to academically qualified international students whose English proficiency score do not meet the University of Toronto’s (U of T) direct entrance requirements.

Program requirements
The IFP@UTM is only available to international students currently graduating from high school. If you have previously attended any post-secondary institution, you are not eligible for the program.
Academic qualifications for IFP@UTM are identical to those for regular admission to UTM. The only difference is that the English proficiency requirements are lower than those for direct admission.
To be accepted into IFP@UTM, your English proficiency test scores should fall into the ranges listed below:
| IELTS | Overall 5.0 - 6.5. No band lower than 5.0 with a minimum writing band of 5.5 and recommended reading band of 5.5. |
| DUOLINGO | Overall 95+. No sub-scores below 95. |
| TOEFL | No band lower than 2.5 with a minimum writing band at 3.0 & recommended reading band at 3.5. |
Applying to the IFP@UTM
You have two options to apply to the program:
Apply directly to IFP@UTM on the Ontario Universities' Application Centre.
Look for programs listed under U of T Mississauga with the IFP notation.
Apply directly to UTM for direct-entry on the Ontario Universities' Application Centre.
When asked whether you would like to be considered for IFP@UTM, do so via the UTM Alternate Consideration form.
Completing the program
Candidates accepted into IFP@UTM become UTM undergraduate students. However, in order to proceed further in undergraduate studies, you must successfully complete the IFP, including:
- the degree credit-course;
- the discipline-specific course; and
- the language and academic development courses.
Successful completion of the IFP@UTM guarantees admission to UTM.
