Deferral Facts

  • Deferrals are not guaranteed and will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
  • Deferral requests that are approved will include deferral of eligible entrance scholarship(s) awarded – check the terms of your award for conditions and eligibility – and the residence guarantee, if applicable.
  • Non-degree and Bridging Pathway offers are not eligible for deferral.

Requesting a Deferral

Deferral applications will be available beginning in July. The Admission Deferral Form will be available on the Offer of Admission page within the JOIN U of T website, if you meet the requirements listed above.

The cost to defer an offer of admission is $90, paid when you submit the Admission Deferral Form.

The deadline to submit the form is September of the same year you were originally scheduled to begin your studies with us. The deadline for newly admitted students (September 2023) is September 15, 2023.

If you miss the deferral deadline, you will have to reapply for admission in a future session. We suggest you submit your deferral request as soon as your official, final transcripts are available.

Finally, if your deferral request is granted, the Student Recruitment & Admissions Office will ensure your course enrolment for the 2023-2024 academic year is adjusted and tuition is refunded (if applicable).
