Fair Trade Campus Week:

Throughout the week of October 26-30, UTM celebrated Fair Trade and being the first Silver Fair Trade Campus in Canada! This year the celebratory week looked a little different, it was 100% virtual. There was a speaker panel daily, and giveaways throughout the week. We're grateful to all who joined, supported, learned, and engaged with us!

Global Climate Strike Week | Doi Chaang 'Sustainability' Breakfast 'n Learn:

Global Climate Strike Week

On September 26th, in support of the Global Climate Strike Week we welcomed a coffee expert from Doi Chaang to our newly opened Fair Trade Corner to host a ticketed event and discuss all the ways in which Canterbury, and Doi Chaang specifically, work to not only protect human rights, but also the land.

We then had a lively Q&A and enjoyed some unique-to-UTM lattes in free reusable Hospitality & Ancillary Services ceramic reusable mugs for attendees to take back and reuse in the future.

Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Exam Extravaganza:

In addition to free Ben & Jerry's we also gave away stickers, pins, and information on Fair Trade and what it means for UTM as a designated Fair Trade Campus.

Breakfast 'n Learn with Doi Chaang:

Fair Trade Coffee Breakfast 'n Learn

On March 13th we hosted a Breakfast 'n Learn with Doi Chaang. Students, staff and faculty enjoyed some Ethiopean and Guatemalan Fair Trade coffee.

They learned about what it means to be Fair Trade, about the origins of coffee, modern trends in café's today, and the bean to café process.

The coffee was delicious, the material enlightening, and the samples were decadent. Doi Chaang staff demonstrated how to properly brew the perfect cup of coffee using a Chemex and provided attendees with samples to enjoy with the delicious breakfast provided by the Hospitality team.
