Good Old Neon, a theatre company in Toronto, has been invited to do a dress-rehearsal performance and workshop/discussion of their piece The Last Mammoth at UTM in March. You can read about the show on the Good Old Neon website. The company will perform the piece during hour one, then solicit feedback from our students in an informal workshop during hour two.

The Last Mammoth is a mixed-media theatrical production that addresses the climate crisis; it's designed for an audience of children. It is also a collaboration between Rebecca Woods, a historian of science at the U of T, and the theatre company. The workshop at UTM will gather feedback from a University audience as the performers develop the piece. Good Old Neon has been invited to take the piece to Dawson City later in 2024, to give the production, including the puppet, to the Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in community connected to the stewardship of Nun Cho Ga, the baby woolly mammoth found in Yukon in 2022.

The performance will be a unique opportunity for students to witness the production-in-process and to think through the ways in which the appearance of a baby woolly mammoth such as Nun Cho Ga can become a meaningful point of connection among the emerging stories of climate change, environmental stewardship, and truth and reconciliation in Canada.

This event is made possible by grant funding from the Experiential Education Unit (EEU), Office of the Dean, UTM.
