A summer message to the ICCIT community

Prof. Tracey Bowen's headshotHello everyone, I am thrilled to be the new Acting Director for ICCIT. Many of you already know me from my roles as Teacher, Internship coordinator, CCIT Program Director, and as ICCIT Associate Director. Those of you I haven’t yet met, I look forward to having the opportunity over the next year, and hopefully in person. It is my privilege to be your ICCIT Director and I look forward to learning about your goals and aspirations as we enter a new stage at the Institute.

This last year at ICCIT and UTM has been a doozy! However, despite all the challenges, loneliness for some, and so much pivoting our heads were spinning, ICCIT grew stronger. The ICCIT Council and DEM Association continued to host amazing student events- highlighting their collaborative spirit and providing much needed connection for students around the world. Students in the Professional Writing Program produced Mindwaves and Compass without missing a beat and continued their very popular readings virtually. ICCIT launched the Peer Mentorship program, the Media Skills workshop series, and the Professional Experience Certificate in Digital Media, Communication, and Technology. We did all this as an enthusiastic community of students, staff, librarians, and faculty while physically apart from each other.

ICCIT will also welcome four new faculty members into our community this fall: Bree McEwan, Sarah Cherki El Idrissi, Dan Guadagnolo, and Hyesung Yoo. Welcome all! I am  very excited to have these fascinating and amazing new colleagues join us.

Many of you may be wondering about what will happen in the fall. Uncertainty has been part of our daily lives over the last 18 months and continues to hover over us this summer. I will be posting updates as I receive them and you can keep up to date through the UTM registrar’s COVID 19 FAQs site for more information https://www.utm.utoronto.ca/registrar/covid19

I am very excited about the year ahead and eventually inhabiting the UTM campus again soon. I wish you all the best for a wonderful and relaxing summer break - you all REALLY deserve it!

Stay cool and stay safe.

All the best,
Tracey Bowen,
Acting Director and Associate Professor Teaching Stream
