Student Spotlight: Mahnoor Khurram Winner of the University of Toronto Mississauga Student Leadership Award (UTMSLA)

The Department of English & Drama is delighted to recognize Mahnoor Khurram who received the 2023 University of Toronto Mississauga Student Leadership Award (UTMSLA)  Principal's Award of Excellence in Student Leadership. 

"When I had first applied to English alongside Biology for the Health Sciences, I had anxieties about the lack of complement between the two disciplines, and if I was equipped to study English at the undergraduate level. I can now say with confidence that it was one of the best decisions I could have made for my academic journey.

The exposure to a diversity of fields, texts, and Professors has been incredibly rewarding. I have found that the skills I've developed in critical thinking, effective writing and communication have stemmed from my English studies, and taken me everywhere!

So much of what I love, from leading a team, to contributing to UTM student group initiatives, hinges on qualities I exercise every day in the inviting environment of the English classroom.

The E&D Department promotes a wonderful level of well-roundedness that I truly think any student stands to benefit from."
