Living Learning Communities

What is a Living Learning Community?

Break

At UTM, we offer students in residence the opportunity to live in our Living Learning Communities (LLC) to enrich their residence experience. In each LLC, students live with other students who share similar interests & area of study and are enrolled in at least one course together. These students also live alongside an upper year student (LLC Program Facilitator) who will support them during their time in residence and provide opportunities throughout the year to help LLC students make friends and achieve academic success.

In all of our LLCs, we provide experiential opportunities to build on your learning experiences beyond the classroom through collaborative programming with campus services, partnerships with faculty and academic departments, and field trips in the Greater Toronto Area. We are excited this year to introduce the Education LLC to our mix, bringing us to 8 LLCs for you to choose to live in!

When a student lives in an LLC they will accomplish the following:

  • Create an academic network of peers, faculty, and campus support services

  • Identify an appropriate academic pathway based on career aspirations

  • Exhibit a growth-oriented attitude that contributes to academic resiliency

  • Outline UTM’s academic expectations and policies

  • Demonstrate effective individualized learning strategies

Exclusive opportunities only in an LLC:

  • Residence orientation luncheon for LLC students to meet other students in the LLC

  • Live in the same community with other students taking the same course as you and/or program of study

  • Multiple field trips in the Greater Toronto Area with your professor(s) and other students in the LLC

  • Personalized workshops to help you build skills that support your transition into your academic program

  • Mentorship from an upper-year student who has completed the required course in the LLC

  • Multiple opportunities for LLC students to make lifelong friends in your program of interest, including an End-of-the-Year social for all students in an LLC only

  • Co-curricular record (CCR) for your participation in the LLC
