We encourage you to bring only the essentials you will need in residence. We highly recommend you buy some non-essentials after you move-in! See our full Preparation Checklist here: https://www.utm.utoronto.ca/housing/preparation-checklist

Please ensure to bring government issued photo-ID or your T-Card. Identification is required to check into residence and get your residence keys.

Move-In Day Details

Driving Instructions

  1. Enter through the South Entrance. Google maps link: https://maps.app.goo.gl/ATo7Yi9mxCvdm3dm7
  2. Follow the path based on your residence area. If you are in a taxi or ride share app (Uber/Lyft), please follow the purple path.
  3. Drop-off student & belongings to residence area. Please wait for a staff member for further instructions.
  4. Once your car is empty, please park your car.

Please note on both move-in days, buses will be re-routed outside of campus to accommodate for heavy traffic.

When you arrive for your Move-In Day, you can expect the following:

  1. Check-In: All residents will be required to pick up their key at their designated area of move-in. Traffic will be one-way so students should follow the recommended route found in the move-in maps.
  2. Guest Limit - To assist in limiting the number of people on campus, we are limiting the number of guests to assist with your move-in to 2 people.
  3. Parking: If you need to park, parking will be available in P4/P8/P5 as indicated on the Move-In Maps. Please note that parking will be free only on move-in days.
  4. Pick-up your T-Card: Students will be able to pick up T-Cards on move-in day in OPH (if they have done the proper steps ahead of time). The I&ITS Service Desk will be open in the CCT Building if you have questions about your T-Card. See instructions in our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) for more details on how to set up your T-Card!
  5. Orientation!: Orientation activities will be happening around campus on move-in days. We encourage you to check out all the events available to you. Learn more here.

Parents, Families, & Supporters Orientation

Date: August 29 and August 30, 2025 from 11:00 AM - 3:30 PM

As a parent, family member, or supporter helping your student begin their journey at the University of Toronto Mississauga, we recognize this may be a transition for you as well! We invite you to attend UTM’s Parents, Families, & Supporters Orientation to learn more about how you can support your student’s transition to university. This free event will allow you to engage with faculty, staff, and students through presentations and a resource fair on programs, resources, services, and policies at UTM. There will also be sessions on specific topics including living in residence, supporting international students, and finance and degree planning.

Learn more about the Parents, Families, & Supporters Program at uoft.me/pfs and subscribe to our Parents, Families, and Supporters Newsletter on our website to receive monthly updates about UTM’s services!

Frequently Asked Questions

We recommend bringing the essentials, plus whatever will help you feel comfortable and make your space feel like home! Think cozy bedding, your favorite mug, photos of loved ones, or that quirky lamp you love.

Sustainability tip: Consider thrifting or swapping items with friends before buying new. It’s a great way to save money, reduce waste, and find unique treasures for your room!

Need help deciding what to bring? Check out our Move-In Preparation Checklist!

Please ask your Uber, Lyft, or taxi driver to enter through the south (Collegeway) entrance (check out the Move-In Map for directions).

Once on campus, they should follow the signs to the designated Ride App/Taxi drop-off area. When you arrive, just stay in the vehicle until a Student Housing & Residence Life team member comes by to greet you and guide you through the next steps.

Unfortunately we will not be accommodating early move-ins at this time. We have arranged preferred rates with hotels for family accommodations should you be in the area before your designated move-in date and time.

Unfortunately, we can only provide keys directly to the resident, no exceptions. When picking up your keys, you’ll need to show a valid piece of government-issued photo ID (like a driver’s license or passport).

If you’re unable to arrive on move-in day, please contact the Residence Services Desk in advance to discuss alternative arrangements.

To help everyone settle in smoothly, overnight guests are not permitted during move-in day and the first two weeks of September. We’ve got tons of fun events and activities planned to help you meet new people and feel right at home!

We recommend that parents and family say their goodbyes at the car after check-in.

Looking for nearby accommodations? Parents and family can book a room at the Holiday Inn under the UTM Residence hotel block (while availability lasts).

No need to pack a cart! Each student will have access to a move-in cart to help transport belongings from their car to their unit. Our team will be on hand to assist and keep things moving smoothly.

UTM offers a variety of on-campus dining options, from quick bites to full meals, there’s something for every taste and dietary need.

Check out what’s open and when by visiting the Campus Food Hours page.

Absolutely! Our amazing team of staff and student volunteers will be on-site and ready to help you move your belongings from your car to your room. Whether it’s lifting boxes or showing you the way, we’ve got your back!

Townhouse and apartment-style units include common area closets where you can store some extra items. That said, we strongly encourage you to bring only what you truly need, space is limited, and keeping things simple makes move-in much easier.

You will be able to get you Tcard on move-in day if you complete the necessary steps indicated here: https://uoft.service-now.com/utm_iits?id=kb_article&sysparm_article=KB0013250

Important documentation is required for you to be able to receive your TCard. Visit the website for details, but most students will generally need:

  1. Valid Government-issued Photo Identification* or passport to establish your identity
  2. Citizenship documents such as passport or birth certificate to establish your tuition eligibility*
  3. Valid study permit, if you are not a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, to establish your eligibility to study in Canada

Important: If your study permit is expiring in 3 months or less, we are requesting that you provide proof that you have applied to extend your study permit prior to receiving your TCard

*The names on this documentation must match the names in your University student records. All documents must be original. Use this link to see what documents you will need: https://tcard.utoronto.ca/get-your-utorid-tcard/documentation-tool/. Copies (paper or electronic) will not be accepted.
