Climate change is one of the greatest challenges of our time. We are committed to doing our part and taking action.

The Low-Carbon Action Plan (2019-2024) is the guiding framework for all three campuses to achieve a low carbon future. This follows the University of Toronto’s decision to join the University Climate Change Coalition, a network of leading universities committed to accelerating climate action. Our targets are:

  • 37% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, below a 1990 baseline level *UTM does not have data from 1990, thus 2005 is the baseline level.

  • Net zero by 2050

In the Community

Both the City of Mississauga and the Region of Peel have declared climate change emergencies, recognizing that climate change is a threat to our communities and way of life.

City of Mississauga Climate Action Goals

The City of Mississauga’s Climate Change Action Plan outlines the path to both mitigate and adapt to climate change. The city’s targets are a 40% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, and 80% reduction by 2050, below 1990 levels.
