Transforming Our Campus

Towards A Low Carbon Future at UTM

Climate change is one of the greatest challenges of our time. We are committed to doing our part and taking action.

The Climate Positive Plan outlines UTM's plan to becoming climate positive. This Plan supersedes the Low-Carbon Action Plan (2019-2024) (LCAP), reducing emissions by 39 per cent by 2030, and achieving climate positive by 2050

It also outlines the transformational infrastructure change in the way we consume, distribute, and produce electricity.

In the Community

Both the City of Mississauga and the Region of Peel have declared climate change emergencies, recognizing that climate change is a threat to our communities and way of life.

City of Mississauga Climate Action Goals

The City of Mississauga’s Climate Change Action Plan outlines the path to both mitigate and adapt to climate change. The city’s targets are a 40% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, and 80% reduction by 2050, below 1990 levels.

Social Sustainability and EDI

Social sustainability is the capacity of a community to create and maintain equitable, inclusive and resilient environments where all individuals can thrive and experience a high quality of life over the long term. This is achieved by addressing the interconnected social conditions that support well-being, such as human rights, health, social justice and equitable access to opportunities.
