Hear from our students!

education

My name is Carae Henry and I am a Residence Don, formerly a Community Assistant. In years prior, I was also a Don for the Bio LLC!
During my undergrad, I majored in Criminology, Law & Society along with Sociology. Throughout my third year, I took many EDS courses which added a new lens to my experience in navigating higher education. Of all the courses I took, EDS250 on Indigenous Education was by far my favourite; it allowed me to put a lot of sociological and feminist theory that I had learned elsewhere into practice. Since then, I have had the opportunity to work with the EDS program closely and support the learning of my peers in new and exciting ways!
Whether you’re interested in a career in education, or simply looking to meet distribution requirements, EDS offers a unique opportunity to reignite a passion for learning. With courses that integrate aspects of psychology, sociology and learning theory, this interdisciplinary field offers something for every student at UTM. When you take a closer look at the many facets of the learning experience, there is an opportunity to learn more about yourself. As this wonderful program is led by an extremely supportive faculty, I encourage every student to try an EDS course at least once!
As a former LLC Don and student surrounded by Living Learning Communities, I believe that these spaces are a rich opportunity for students to grow as lifelong learners. Surrounded by those with a similar passion to elevate their undergraduate years, the LLCs are often one of the first places that students can freely network with their direct academic community. As the year progresses and students meet various academic and personal challenges, the tight-knit LLC community is often such a great support for students to fall back on as they build resilience.
