Experiential Learning Bursaries 2019-20
Following our successful launch of the Experiential Learning (EL) Bursaries program last year, the Experiential Education Unit (EEU) is pleased to announce that the Office of the Vice-Principal, Academic and Dean will once again make bursaries available to students enrolled in eligible EL courses offered over the Summer 2019, Fall 2019, and Winter 2020 academic terms.
Bursary amounts are determined by the EEU with respect to the specific demands of the EL activities offered in the course, as per the information provided on the course syllabus and/or in consultation with the course’s instructor. Students will be notified via e-mail once the bursaries have been distributed and be asked to fill out a self-assessment survey as part of the process.
Students with accessibility concerns are recommended to consult with Accessibility Services on campus to evaluate their needs before applying for an EL Bursary. The EEU will work closely with the Office of the Registrar, Accessibility Services, the Equity & Diversity Office, and the Indigenous Centre to ensure that the EL Bursaries program fulfills the University of Toronto’s pledge to “remove a range of barriers and support our community members in fulfilling their academic, research and employment goals.”
If you have any questions about the EL Bursaries program for 2019-20, please do not hesitate to reach out to experientialeducation [dot] utm [at] utoronto [dot] ca. We hope that the availability of EL Bursaries for the upcoming year will encourage you to consider participating in the EL opportunities offered at UTM as you begin enrolling in courses this month.
How to Apply
Students enrolled in one or more eligible EL courses can be considered for the EL Bursaries program by submitting an application online during either of the application periods below. Applications received after the September deadline will not be considered until the end of January.
September 5, 2019 – October 2, 2019
January 6, 2020 – January 31, 2020
Mar. 5, 2020: Bursaries for the Winter 2020 application cycle are now being processed for distribution. All applicants should be informed of a decision on their application within the next week.
When demonstrating financial need, please remember to include costs associated with eligible EL courses in your expenses. You will be asked to specify the EL course(s) in which you are enrolled and to provide a brief description of the additional costs associated with the course activities. Such costs may include, but are not limited to: ancillary fees, transportation, equipment, professional attire, and more. Associated costs will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis, so please be as specific as possible in your descriptions. Applicants who fail to provide this information may not be considered for an EL Bursary.
Students who are registered in a degree program with the University of Toronto and enrolled in any of the following courses may qualify for a bursary. We will continue to update these lists throughout the month of June. Please be advised that approval for an EL Bursary will be dependent upon the student’s active participation in the EL activities offered in the eligible course.
