What is Experiential Learning?
Quite simply, experiential learning is “learning by doing" and it takes knowledge and research beyond the classroom.
Experiential learning provides:
- Practical experience
- Encourages career exploration
- Fosters community
- Enhances your employability
- Prepares you to lead in an ever-changing world
The 5 Types of Experiential Learning at UTM
Co-op Internship Program
These long-term, full-time work opportunities are paid and provide an immersive industry experience. While uncredited, completion of these internships will earn a notation on their transcript.
These short-term, part-time opportunities allow you to earn credits while gaining practical work-based experience. These internships may be paid or unpaid, and provide structured work experience related to your program and/or career goals.
Research Opportunity Program (ROP)
This signature program provides an unmatched opportunity to become involved in cutting-edge research and work directly with leading faculty members.
Field courses allow you to apply, in a practical fashion, course concepts outside of the classroom. Field experiences support your professional development but are not required for professional licensure or accreditation.
Community-Engaged Learning (CEL)
Community-engaged learning is a method of teaching and learning that combines classroom curriculum and learning objectives with meaningful contributions to the community.
