The Alchemist

The alchemist text next to a flask

By Ben Jonson

Adapted by Holger Syme

Directed by Aaron Jan

"The Alchemist," by Ben Jonson, is a satirical play about a group of con artists in London who exploit people's greed and gullibility during a plague outbreak. The main con artists are Face, Subtle, and Dol Common, who use Subtle's supposed alchemical skills to swindle various characters seeking wealth and other desires. Their schemes are eventually exposed when Lovewit, the homeowner, returns unexpectedly, and the con artists flee, leaving their victims disappointed and empty-handed.
